Other useful information
Study related information
The University of Groningen is a decentralized organization. This means that for all administrative issues of the Erasmus Mundus projects, International Relations and/or the Mobility and Scholarship Desk can be contacted (msd@rug.nl).

For all matters related to the contents of the study programme, you will be referred to the study programme or the faculty which administers the programme of your choice.

We advise you to check the website of the faculty at all times (www.rug.nl -> faculties). Each faculty website provides detailed information on both practical and study-related matters for international (degree and non-degree) students which may differ a little at each faculty or department (as e.g. academic calendar, application deadlines for degree seeking students in various international master programmes etc.)

Students seeking a Master’s degree

Please bear in mind that only a limited number of candidates can be admitted to the Master degree programmes in Groningen. If you apply, make sure your application holds all the necessary documents and fulfills the minimum entry requirements of the study programme (bachelor diploma, language requirements, etc.)

Non-degree (exchange) students

Exchange students can be accepted in Bachelor programmes, in most Master programmes and in most PhD programmes.

Bachelor exchanges: applications for 10 months are usually preferred over applications for one semester.

Master exchanges: in one-year Master programmes (60 ECTS), NO exchange is possible in the second semester.

Moreover, NO exchange students can be admitted to the Research Master programmes, only to the “general” master programmes.

In the case of PhD exchanges, applications for 24 months and more are preferred.

Applications for visa and residence permits
The University of Groningen applies for visa and residence permits for all international students. In case you have been selected, you will receive information about this from the Mobility and Scholarship Desk. DO NOT apply for a visa yourself, as this will obstruct the procedure. The University has an agreement with Netherlands immigration services, enabling us to arrange for visa and residence permits within 3 weeks (normal procedure may take up to 3 months).

Visa issues are dealt with by the International Service Desk: isd@rug.nl
